Transitional Fall Decor Ideas that Don't Suck (Part 2)

Welcome back! Let's delve into the next part of our fall decor series and talk about decorative elements themselves, but also subtle creative ways to generate that fall feeling in your home.

Implement The Pumpkin (Without Cramping Your Style)

There are lots of ways to incorporate typical fall decor items without being overly tacky. Take the above photo for example, Liz Marie displayed pumpkins in a beautiful way that complimented her existing space. By desaturating the pumpkins, adding greenery and contrasting it with an industrial material (metal basket), she put a modern twist on a classic fall decor item.

This is another gorgeous idea from Rooms For Rent, where, again, greenery is used to brighten up the tablescape and add a fresh and modern feel to fall decorating. Another idea is to buy metallic faux pumpkins (available in golds, rose gold, silver) to compliment the metals that are already displayed in your home.

The ultimate transitional fall decor is the pumpkin floral arrangement. How gorgeous is that? It's the collision of two fantastic seasons: summer and fall. You could certainly DIY this like Jojo did, but you can find faux versions of this at HomeSense for less than $30.

Overall, these pumpkins are in relatively neutral colours and are surrounded by greenery and/or flowers. The key is pairing natural textures and elements to create a fresh and modern palette that still incorporate classic autumnal decorations.

Change Out Your Wall Decor

This tip is so easy, and virtually free! Change out the quotes/artwork in the frames around your house for cute, fall themed ones! There are TONS of these on Pinterest that are available for free, or you could purchase one inexpensively on Etsy (or DIY one!). Think of quotes like 'Cuddle Weather', or 'Grateful, Thankful, Blessed'. Search for interesting leaf drawings or watercolour paintings. Find something that speaks to you and compliments your personal decorating style.

Functional & Delicious Decor: Candles & Soaps!

Our friends at Bath & Body Works never disappoint with their selection of fall-themed candles. Filling your home with delicious autumnal scents will surely leave you feeling fallfilled (get it? Ok, lame, I know). Now, don't feel limited to Bath & Body Works... HomeSense and Winners have amazing, full-sized candles for less than $12.

Another easy idea is to swap out your bathroom and kitchen soaps to fall-themed ones. Again, Bath & Body Works has a ton of options to choose from.

A final idea regarding scents is to simmer spices in a pot to fill your home with autumnal essence. There are some great tutorials to be found on Pinterest and Youtube, one of them being this one from How Sweet Eats that features apple slices, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and more. This is a great natural alternative to the above ideas.

Make a Coffee Station

Nothing says fall like a warm cup of something delicious. Whether you make it a coffee, tea, hot chocolate, or cider station, this is a great way to make your decor functional and exciting for you.

Overall, let your home speak of your creativity, tastes and aesthetic. Let it speak of your love for laughter, your tranquil demeanour or your moody temperament. Fall is an exciting opportunity to (pumpkin) spice things up and experiment with different colours, textures and patterns that represent this season for you.

Your space is an opportunity to express yourself, so don't pass up the chance to let your personality shine!
